Development of a blended learning system for nurses to learn the basics of psychoeducation for patients with mental disorders

Abstract Background Psychoeducation should be practiced by various professionals. However, many Japanese psychiatric nurses recognize that psychoeducation other professionals, and show passive attitudes toward learning about evidence-based practices (EBPs), including psychoeducation. We developed a practitioner training program (PPTP) to nurture nurses. the PPTP was shown ineffective help achieve skills, although it improved their knowledge of views on EBP. evaluated revised version PPTP, integrating blended combines e-learning group education (BL-PPTP), nurses’ competencies practice for patients with mental disorders. Method trained working acute care wards hospitals using BL-PPTP, compared (EBP attitudes), preparedness psychoeducational practice, self-efficacy at 4 points clarify time-course changes in each participant. Results Sixty-nine participated, 31 withdrew, 38 were analyzed. The time needed complete BL-PPTP ranged from 259 days, revealing marked individual difference. There significant improvements most participants’ EBP end baseline. Conclusions may useful present study also disseminate among nurses, increase quality nursing care.
